FROM BUDAPEST TO BOULDER

Tuesday: The Takacs Quartet, named after its original first violinist, was formed at Budapest's Liszt Academy in 1975 and studied with Britain's legendary Amadeus Quartet. In 1983, the players took up residence at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where, three personnel changes later, they remain. Grammy winners in 2003, they're on nearly every short list of the world's great string quartets. Characteristically, their debut concert with the Schubert Club goes to the heart of the repertory: Haydn (Op. 71, No. 1), Shostakovich (Op. 122) and Beethoven (Op. 127). (8 p.m. Tue. $25-$50. Ordway Center, 5th and Washington Sts., St. Paul. 651-292-3268 or www.schubert.org.)
