Classical music spotlight: Minnesota Orchestra with guest conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier

Thursday-Saturday: The Minnesota Orchestra follows up last month's performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations with another conductor-created orchestration. This week, conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier presents his own arrangement of Ravel's Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello, in a version for full orchestra with no soloists. The jazz-influenced overture to Hindemith's comic opera "Neues vom Tage (News of the Day)" opens the program, which concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade," a musical telling of four stories from "1,001 Nights."
