Class 2A: After two, Apple Valley leads Blaine 1-0

The Eagles, who have just 10 shots on goal, scored a late second-period goal to break a scoreless tie

March 11, 2010 at 9:12PM

We've got ourselves a hockey game here, folks.

Just when it looked like we were going to head into the third period tied 0-0, Apple Valley finally lit the lamp with a buck fifteen left in the second.

Ryan Geary blasted a shot in on net from the right point. It was deflected to the corner, scooped up and thrown on net by Kris Goodman and somehow poked across the goal line by Adam Robson. Three (!!!) Blaine defenders were around the mouth of the goal crease at the time of the goal, but couldn't get the puck away from Danny Harper.

Blaine is dominating in shots on goal, leading 22-10. But a lot of the Bengals' shots are coming from well out in the zone. The Eagles, meanwhile, are getting great scoring chances.

Should be one H-E-double hockey sticks of a third period.

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
