A Springtime Jubilee

Friday and Sunday: The 100-voice VocalEssence chorus and the 32-voice Ensemble Singers will perform the work of John Rutter this weekend. Rutter, the English composer of choral music, was to have conducted this concert, but illness has forced him to stay home. He will, though, appear in a taped video welcome. In addition to the two concerts, VocalEssence will hold a "Community Sing" at Hennepin United Methodist Church, conducted by VocalEssence director Philip Brunelle and featuring Rutter's work. Community members are invited to sing with the ensemble and sheet music will be provided. (8 p.m. Fri. & 4 p.m. Sun.; Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th St., Mpls.; Community Sing, 10 a.m. Sun., Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Av., Mpls.; $20-$25, 612-371-5656 or www.vocalessence.org)
