Three players to watch

Ben Simmons, LSU

Yes, he's just a freshman, but the arrival of the 6-10 forward – the consensus No. 1 recruit in the nation – has some people making big predictions for the Tigers. Simmons has a feel for the game not often seen in first-year players and should thrive right away. Enjoy the show because he won't be around for long.

Kris Dunn, Providence

Had he entered the draft this summer, he would have been a first-round pick. Instead, the junior guard will be back to artfully steer his team with his highlight-reel passes and score in buckets.

Melo Trimble, Maryland

The dynamic floor general made an immediate impact as a freshman last year, proving his ability to get into the lane, find his teammates in traffic, hit the long ball and create havoc on defense. The scary thing? He'll be even better as a sophomore.

Amid departures and a possible opt-out, Minnesota’s wide receiver group likely won’t be at full strength for its Dec. 26 matchup against the Lobos.
