Redshirt sophomore Mitch Leidner, known as "the Boss," will be the Gophers' fourth different opening day starting quarterback in the past five years:
Adam Weber, 2010: Last of his four seasons as the Gophers' starter. He holds the school record for touchdown passes.
MarQueis Gray, 2011-12: Jerry Kill's first starting quarterback. He was moved to wide receiver in the middle of the 2012 season.
Philip Nelson, 2013: Transferred to Rutgers after the season. Kicked off the Scarlet Knights in May following an altercation in Mankato.
