THE PERFECT SEASON

The Gophers women's hockey team won last year's NCAA championship, but this year's squad looks to be even more dominant and could stake a claim as the best team ever in its sport. The Gophers are a perfect 26-0 this season and have outscored opponents by a combined 147-20 heading into this weekend's series against Minnesota Duluth at Ridder Arena. Here are some of the NCAA records the Gophers have set or still are chasing:

34: Consecutive games won (broke Harvard's record of 21 on Nov. 17).

34: Consecutive games won or tied (surpassing Wisconsin's record of 32).

21: Consecutive road wins (broke Mercyhurst's record of 15 on Dec. 7).

26: Wins in 2012-13 (most wins in a season: Wisconsin, 37).

0: Losses in 2012-13 (fewest losses in a season: Wisconsin, 1).

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
