KEEPING PACE

A look at NCAA Division III transfer and redshirt rules since 2000, and where the MIAC stood:

Pre-2004: Division III allowed member schools to redshirt athletes, meaning players who practiced but didn't play in games retained four years of eligibility. The MIAC prohibited the policy.

2004: Division III voted to prohibit its schools from redshirting players, but allowed transfers from Division I or II who had sat out a year to retain a year of eligibility. The MIAC transfer rule did not grant eligibility for the redshirt year at previous schools.

2009: The MIAC, the only Division III conference in the nation not allowing redshirt transfers to retain a year of eligibility, voted to grant a year of eligibility for transfers who had sat out a year.
