Aug. 24, 1961: Born in Cheney, Kan.

1979-1982: Plays linebacker for Southwestern College in Kansas.

1985: Begins coaching career as Pittsburg State (Kan.) defensive coordinator.

2001: Named head coach at Southern Illinois, after stops at Pittsburg, Webb City (Mo.) High School, Saginaw Valley State and Emporia State.

2005: Has a seizure on sidelines while coaching for Southern Illinois. This seizure leads to the discovery of his kidney cancer, which has since been in remission.

2008: Named Northern Illinois coach.

Sept. 25, 2010: Kill's Northern Illinois team comes to Minnesota and upsets Tim Brewster's Gophers, 34-23.

Dec. 7, 2010: Kill named Minnesota head coach.

Sept. 10, 2011: Kill has a seizure on TCF Bank Stadium sidelines during home game against New Mexico State.

Oct. 14, 2012: Has a seizure after news conference following Northwestern game.

Nov. 28, 2012: Has a seizure at halftime of Michigan State game; he missed second half.

Sept. 14, 2013: Has a seizure just after halftime during home game against Western Illinois.

Oct. 26, 2013: Gophers beat Nebraska 34-23, a signature victory for Kill.

2013: Leads Gophers to 8-5 record, the program's first season of eight or more victories since 2003.

Sept. 27, 2014: Gophers win at Michigan 30-14, and Kill celebrates with the Little Brown Jug and players.

Jan. 1, 2015: Coaches the Gophers in a Jan. 1 bowl (a 33-17 loss to Missouri in the Citrus Bowl), their first New Year's Day bowl since 1962. Gophers finish 8-5.

Aug. 14, 2015: Kill gets raise, bringing his annual salary to $2.5 million.

Oct. 17, 2015: Kill coaches his final game, a 48-25 loss to Nebraska.

Oct. 28, 2015: Announces he's retiring from coaching.
