A woman believed to be Minnesota's last-remaining Gold Star Mother from the Korean War will be honored Sunday at the State Capitol.
Emma Siemers, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday in Milaca, Minn., lost her son Curtis just 17 days before hostilities between the United States and Korea ended. He was killed in action.
The American Gold Star Mothers represent women who have lost a son or daughter in military service.
Sunday's event will observe the 10th anniversary of state's Korean War Memorial. The memorial is dedicated to all Minnesota veterans who served in the Korean War and includes the names of 750 Minnesotans who were killed or missing in action.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. on the State Capitol mall. A reception will follow at the Minnesota National Guard Armory, 600 Cedar St., St. Paul.
The event is sponsored by the Minnesota Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 1.
