CenterPoint Energy said on Monday it has closed on the purchase of the former Neiman Marcus store on Nicollet Mall.

Terms of the deal, which closed Friday, were not disclosed.

The 100,000-square-foot facility at 505 Nicollet Mall will become the new home for more than 300 of CenterPoint's natural gas employees, who will move in the first quarter of 2015.

CenterPoint, which is based in Houston, said the new facility will draw employees from two locations, primarily from leased space at LaSalle Plaza in downtown Minneapolis.

"We chose 505 Nicollet because of its downtown location, which is central to our natural gas operations," said Joe Vortherms, vice president of Gas Operations for CenterPoint Energy in Minnesota, in a statement. "We are looking forward to enhancing our efficiency and productivity at a strategically located facility, and it reinforces our commitment to downtown Minneapolis."

The company will seek Silver Leadership in Environment and Engineering Design (LEED) certification, which is designed to meet strict energy efficiency standards.

In addition, the Meet Minneapolis, Convention & Visitors Association will have a new Visitor Information Center in the building.
