New York City government appears to be a laughing matter.

Aides to Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed Wednesday that comedian Louis C.K. has been shadowing the mayor to do research for a project.

Louis C.K., who stars in the hit series, “Louie,” sat in on a meeting of the state’s Financial Control Board on Tuesday, listening to De Blasio’s testimony. He attended several meetings at City Hall. Then he joined the mayor at a National Night Out anti-crime event at a Brooklyn police precinct.

This was not the first time De Blasio and the comedian collaborated. Louis C.K. was part of De Blasio’s skit at this year’s Inner Circle journalism variety show.

Hayek says she’s keeping busy

Salma Hayek says that while Hollywood studios may not be calling as much lately, she’s staying plenty busy. “I think they don’t want me but I don’t really care,” said the Oscar-nominated actress. Hayek produced and voices a character in the animated film adaptation of Lebanese writer Kahlil Gibran’s 1923 book of prose poetry, “The Prophet.” It’s a passion project, opening in U.S. theatres on Aug. 7, that she said was partly inspired by her 7-year-old daughter Valentina Pinault. “It’s meaningful. It’s hopeful. It’s uplifting. It’s respectful. It honors children,” Hayek said. “Many people tell me, ‘But they are not going to like poetry.’ Children love poetry. That’s why we have the nursery rhymes and then we don’t give it to them anymore. It’s their first language. They think in metaphor.” Hayek hasn’t been as much of a red carpet fixture as she once was in the entertainment world. She said she’s been busy with charity events.

hospitalized: Food Network star Sandra Lee has been hospitalized for complications from a double mastectomy in May. Lee, 49, was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night to deal with a buildup of fluids and is expected to be monitored for a couple of days. Her live-in boyfriend, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, left a Billy Joel concert at Nassau Coliseum early to be with Lee when he learned of her hospitalization. Cuomo, who is friends with Joel, introduced the musician at the concert.

‘in the dark’: “Community” cast member Ken Jeong has a new gig on ABC but he’d be glad to see the comedy stay alive. Yahoo gave the canceled NBC sitcom a sixth season that rolled out this spring. Jeong stars in a new family comedy, “Dr. Ken,” premiering Oct. 2 on ABC. He said he was “completely in the dark” about the status of “Community.”
