A man from Bena, Minn., was arrested this week after he allegedly assaulted bar patrons and then fatally stabbed his mother, authorities said.
Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said Joy Marie Matthews, 54, of Bena, was found unresponsive Wednesday morning. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that she died of stab wounds.
The night before, the Sheriff’s Office received reports of an “out-of-control individual” attacking and assaulting several patrons outside the Big Winnie Bar, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release
The 34-year-old suspect is being held in the Cass County jail. The Star Tribune generally does not name suspects before they are charged.
