Carleton College announced last week that it has completed its $300 million fundraising campaign -- the largest in its history.

A look at the numbers:

$300,383,642 was the grand total in gifts and pledges. That money has and will pay for adding faculty, boosting financial aid and new buildings and renovations. It came from 23,148 donors.

Carleton trustees gave more than $100 million alone, and there were 26 gifts of $2 millionor more. The Northfield college began the campaign in 2004 with a deadline of June 30, 2010. At the time, it was the largest fundraising campaign undertaken by a Minnesota private college.

But the University of St. Thomas undid that claim with its $500 million goal. Carleton's announcement topped off the retirement of the liberal arts college's 10th president, Robert Oden Jr., who led the fundraising effort.
