In the first move of its kind, the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota identified a car dealership Friday it says violated a Minnesota Auto Dealers Association policy that asks dealers to promptly correct misleading or "problematic" advertising.
The BBB said it began working with the business, Fury Motors , which has locations in South St. Paul and Lake Elmo, in July over their presentation of a $1,000 financing discount.
"Despite multiple appeals from the BBB to modify the advertisements, the company continued to advertise a $1,000 discount on cars without disclosing clearly, conspicuously and in close conjunction with the price that the discount was contingent upon financing through Fury Motors (i.e. someone paying cash or financing through their own lender would not receive the $1,000 discount)," the BBB said.
The BBB acknowledges the dealership has made some fixes, but hasn't fully complied within a one-month deadline.
Jim Leonard, co-owner of Fury Motors, said: "It's not a simple process. We've put good effort forward to try to comply and we'll continue to do so. They're jumping the gun on this." Leonard added that they've received no customer complaints about the advertising.
Fury Motors' BBB rating went from A+ to F .
