Capitals, Flames add defensemen; other teams shed salaries

• Washington re-signed defenseman Dmitry Orlov to a $30.6 million, six-year deal. The $5.1 million salary-cap hit doubles the $2.57 million from a one-year deal last season.

• Flames defenseman Michael Stone, acquired from Arizona before the trade deadline, signed a three-year, $10.5 milion contract. Calgary also waived forward Lance Bouma and defenseman Ryan Murphy for the purposes of buying out their contracts.

• New Jersey cleared about $4.5 million in cap space by buying out the contracts of forwards Michael Cammalleri and Devante Smith-Pelly.

• Florida released forward Jussi Jokinen, buying out his contract and clearing $2.67 million.

• Also released and bought out were Benoit Pouliot (Edmonton), Dan Girardi (New York Rangers) and Scott Hartnell (Columbus).
