Cameo Critic: Steve Earle

Steve Earle is a big admirer of veteran folk singer Pete Seeger. He has a tribute song, "Steve's Hammer (For Pete)" on his current album, "Washington Square Serenade," and he's writing a play about Seeger called "Dangerous Songs." Earle, who performs next Sunday at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis, talked about his folk hero and the film, "Peter Seeger: The Power of Song," which premiered last week on PBS:

"The documentary on Pete is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. I struggled not to cry throughout the entire thing. It made me feel fortunate to have just occupied the planet as the same time as him. I think Pete's album 'Dangerous Songs!?' is the 'Exile on Main Street' of folk music. It was his first record post-blacklisting [1966], which makes it all the more fascinating."
