Buy local for Father's Day (well, Wisconsin) Not every dad is a suit-and-tie kind of guy. If he's happiest in the garage or on the construction site, check out the clothes and accessories at Duluth Trading Co. (1-800-505-8888, www.duluthtrading.com). The company's clothing for guys is tested on tradesmen in the field, not Calvin Klein models. Even the copy doesn't read like anything you'll see in a department store ad. The performance boxers ($19) "wick away sweat and stink" and come with a fly with button enclosure "to prevent surprise exposures." They also sell a T-shirt with an extra-long tail ($14.50) to cover "plumber's butt." The Fire Hose work pants ($49.50), made from, yes, fire hose material, have a "dare you to wear them out" guarantee. Prices aren't Wal-Mart cheap, but everything has a lifetime guarantee. Also check out the sale section online, which is organized by how long the items have been on clearance, with escalating discounts each week up to five weeks. Duluth Trading was started in 1991 by two brothers and now is located in Belleville, Wis.

If Dad is a suit-and-tie or business-casual kind of guy, Uber Outlet (6021 Lyndale Av. S., Minneapolis, 612-869-0930, www.myuberoutlet.com) will have items from Twill, the men's store in the Galleria in Edina, at additional savings. Ties will be two for one, spring/summer suits will be 70 percent off, polo shirts $20, long-sleeve sport shirts $30 and golf vests $20.

Boutique starts summer markdowns early Epitome boutique (Galleria, Edina, 952-920-2978) used to wait until mid- to late June to start big markdowns. This year, all of its spring and summer women's clothing and accessories are 40 to 80 percent starting today. Spend $100 or more and receive an additional $25 discount through Sunday. Epitome's selection includes Elie Tahari, Nicole Miller, Andrew Marc and Autumn Cashmere.

European children's wear warehouse sale Save 75 percent on previous years' spring/summer styles at the Papo d'Anjo summer warehouse sale. It features classic European styles for boys and girls from 3 months to 14 years. Prices range from $5 to $35 at the sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (2325 Endicott St., Suite 11, St. Paul, 651-294-3900, www.papodanjo.com). Check the website for styles. The rep recently opened the shop midweek for current season's kids clothing discounted 15 to 75 percent due to minor flaws, and it will be part of this sale.

Garden sample sale Garden accessories sales reps Heather and Jan will discount everything 50 to 70 percent during their sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Save on limited quantities of new arbors, trellises, hanging moss baskets, metal planters, topiary planters, glazed pottery, cast stone statuary, obelisks and selected herbs and perennials. The sale will be in the garage at 330 8th Av. N., Hopkins, 952-934-6179.
