Senior Alex Uloth is in his second season serving as a captain for the Burnsville boys' golf team.

He would like to cap his career with an appearance in the Class 3A state tournament at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.

Here is a closer look at Uloth:

Q: Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me?

A: Fun, competitive, and focused.

Q: Three songs I never skip on my iPod are …

A: … "Alive" by Kid Cudi; "The Man" by Aloe Blacc; and "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5.

Q: How did you get started in golf?

A: My godfather introduced me to golf when I was about 3, and my parents have had a big impact on my golf game as well.

Q: At my first varsity practice, I felt …

A: … pretty normal. I was never very shy, and all I wanted was a chance to show my skills.

Q: What did you do during the offseason?

A: I put in a lot of time in the gym, and played as much golf as I could, which is a little tough during the Minnesota winter.

Q: How hard has it been on you as a golfer the last two years with the extended winters?

A: Golf is very tough with the snow, especially the last few seasons. As far as comparing this season and a year ago, last season was probably a little worse.

Q: To get focused for a tournament, I …

A: … typically arrive at the course about an hour before my tee time hit balls at the range, and then chip and putt. I try to stay away from other competitors in order get in my own zone and really focus on my game.

Q: What is your favorite meal before a tournament?

A: A peanut butter bagel from Bruegger's.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A: Winning the South Suburban Conference individual title as a sophomore. It was very close going into our final tournament, and I put up a good number under pressure. We also won the team title, so it was a good day for everyone.

Q: What are your goals for the upcoming season?

A: This year I hope to not only make it to the state tournament, but be in the running to win the championship.

Q: I know I have the upper hand on another golfer …

A: … when it gets really quiet on the course. I like to keep the environment fun, but when it comes down to the wire, it's a competition.

Q: In 10 years, I …

A: … hope to be finished with medical school, or playing golf professionally.

Q: When I have time off or on vacation, I …

A: … love to play basketball. I'm not really a sit-around-and-relax type of person. I would much rather be doing something active.

Q: What is the best sports advice you ever received?

A: Just to make sure I'm always enjoying myself. I have never been forced into playing a sport, and it has made me love golf that much more because playing it was my own choice.
