Say goodbye to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, and hello to the Cactus Bowl.

Golden Valley-based Buffalo Wild Wings recently pulled its sponsorship of a college football bowl game in Tempe, Arizona. The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl lasted only two seasons.

"While we enjoyed being the title sponsor of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl for two years, we've decided to shift our focus and discontinue our sponsorship following completion of our contract," the company said in a statement.

The Valley of the Sun Bowl Foundation, which puts on the erstwhile Wild Wings bowl, Thursday renamed its game the Cactus Bowl. Apparently, no company stepped up for naming rights.

Buffalo Wild Wings, one of the nation's fastest growing restaurant chains, made it big with its wings, beer and sports motif.

With much of its marketing centered on sports themes, it moved to bowl sponsorship, taking over the game then known as the Insight Bowl. That bowl started in 1989 as the Copper Bowl.
