Buffalo, again, has the Swarm's number

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Minnesota Swarm suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 16-14 to its National Lacrosse League nemesis, Buffalo. The Bandits have an 8-1 record in nine games against the Swarm.

The loss was the first for the Swarm after eight consecutive regular-season victories and left it with a 6-1 record this season, 3-1 on the road. The Bandits improved to 4-4 (2-1 at home).

Down 3-2 after one quarter, Minnesota scored seven second-period goals and took a 9-6 lead at the half. Nine Swarm players scored, and forwards Sean Pollock and Andy Secore both notched four points.

The Swarm went cold in the third quarter, however, and was shut out for the first time in 26 quarters. The Bandits scored five times and went back on top 11-9.

Swarm goalie Nick Patterson made 34 saves and lost for the first time in eight games.

The Swarm will stay on the road to face the Philadelphia Wings (4-0) on Friday. The Swarm has a four-game winning streak against the Wings and is 5-3 all-time.

Gustavus swimmers take two titles Gustavus Adolphus won both the MIAC men's and women's swimming and diving championships on Saturday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. St. Olaf was second in both team competitions

The Gusties women won their second title in a row, beating St. Olaf 697.50-645. The men's team, which has won six of the past seven crowns and 21 overall, had an even bigger margin, winning 874-743.

Carleton's Kate Alexander repeated as the women's swimmer of the year. She successfully defended her 200 breaststroke title, winning in a meet-record time 2:22.75. It was her third individual crown of the championships.
