Chris Blackowiak of Brooklyn Park won the 2nd annual George Wahl Tournament on Saturday with a 54.5-inch muskie he caught on Lake Minnetonka with a home-made bait.
He was one of 175 anglers who fished on 13 metro-area muskie lakes. All of the money raised at the tournament will go toward the metro-area muskie resource.
The Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies Inc. sponsored the tournament, named after George Wahl, longtime muskie advocate and inventor of the Eagle Tail lure - one of the most popular muskies baits ever. He figured he made about 80,000 Eagle Tails and another 120,000 Little Eagles and Mini Eagle lures in his basement workshop.
