Slovakian Petra Vlhova won a World Cup slalom Saturday at Zagreb, Croatia, ending Mikaela Shiffrin's run of nearly a year without a slalom loss.
Vlhova was fastest on both runs and beat Shiffrin, a three-time overall World Cup champ, by 1.31 seconds.
"I knew Miki was very fast," Vlhova said. "If I wanted to win, I had to risk all the time."
Vlhova and Shiffrin have won all 24 World Cup slaloms since January 2017. They are 1-2 in the season's slalom and overall standings, with Shiffrin leading by 120 points in the slalom and 313 points overall.
"It is like this, we are on another level, me and Mikaela," Vlhova said.
