Lamar Jackson is leaving Louisville to enter the NFL draft, one season after becoming the youngest Heisman Trophy winner.

Louisville's 20-year-old junior quarterback tweeted his decision Friday. The decision was somewhat expected after he compiled statistics this season better than those from his Heisman-winning sophomore season. He finished third in this year's Heisman vote.

Jackson thanked Cardinals coach Bobby Petrino, teammates and fans on Twitter. "My time in Louisville has produced some of the best memories of my life," he tweeted. "It has been nothing short of an honor to be a member of #CardsNation and to play for this university."

Jackson, 6-3 and 212 pounds, is a dynamic player, but it's uncertain how high he'll be drafted. Despite accounting for 5,261 offensive yards and 45 touchdowns — his second consecutive season in which he surpassed 1,500 yards rushing and 3,500 passing — questions remain about his passing accuracy and size.

Jackson led the Cardinals to three consecutive bowl games. He threw for three touchdowns in last week's TaxSlayer Bowl but also threw four interceptions in Louisville's 31-27 loss to No. 24 Mississippi State.

Par-5 success gives Harman lead

Brian Harman chipped in at the par-5 15th hole for an unlikely birdie, and a long two-putt birdie on the closing par-5 gave him a 5-under 68 and a share of the lead with Marc Leishman in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii.

Leishman played bogey-free and narrowly missed an eagle on the 18th hole for a 69.

They were at 10-under 136 and one shot ahead of Dustin Johnson, who shot a 68 after early back-to-back bogeys.

Germany takes spot in Hopman Cup final

Angelique Kerber won her singles and contributed heavily in the deciding mixed doubles victory that gave Germany a 2-1 win over Australia and a spot in the Hopman Cup final against Switzerland in Perth, Australia.

Kerber beat Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 6-2. Thanasi Kokkinakis edged Alexander Zverev 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-4, meaning Germany needed to win the doubles to advance. Germany prevailed 1-4, 4-1, 4-3 (3) in the Fast 4 format.

Fifth-ranked Thiem out sick

• Top-seeded Dominic Thiem withdrew from his Qatar Open semifinal against Gael Monfils because of a cold and fever.

• Defending champion Katerina Siniakova defeated Maria Sharapova 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the final of the Shenzhen (China) Open. She'll face top-ranked Simona Halep in the final.

Inline experience leads to Olympics

Erin Jackson sprung a surprise at the U.S. speedskating trials in Milwaukee, becoming a first-time Olympian after just four months on ice. Coming from the world of inline skating, Jackson qualified in the 500 meters by finishing third behind veterans Brittany Bowe and Heather Bergsma.

Bowe and Bergsma had already earned spots in Pyeongchang.

"I really wasn't expecting any of this, just coming in as a newbie," Jackson said, smiling. "I still don't even know."
