Joey Logano won a race and ignited a rivalry Sunday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
Logano bumped Martin Truex Jr. out of the way and crossed the finish line in the NASCAR Cup Series First Data 500 just before Truex slid sideways across it. The victory gave Logano one of four spots in the winner-take-all championship race.
Truex angrily promised a response.
"He may have won the battle, but he ain't winning the damn war. I'm not going to let him win it [the championship]. I'm going to win it," Truex said.
Warning received, Logano said.
"That's expected," Logano said. "He raced really clean and I laid the bumper to him. I don't expect him to be happy."
Denny Hamlin slipped past Truex's sliding car for second place, and Truex took third.
Seven drivers remain eligible for three remaining chances to race for the title Nov. 18 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
