Louisville found its new men's basketball coach, tapping Xavier's Chris Mack to guide the program out of the turbulence in which the Cardinals were linked to a federal investigation.
Multiple reports Tuesday said the school has hired Mack, and a person familiar with the situation confirmed Mack is Louisville's choice.
Mack led the Musketeers to a 29-6 record and the school's first No. 1 tournament seeding this season, but Xavier was upset in the second round by Florida State. Mack was 215-97 in nine seasons at his alma mater with eight NCAA tournament appearances and a trip to last year's Elite Eight.
Mack, 48, said in a tweet Tuesday that "this situation offered a new and unique challenge that I could not turn down." He did not mention Louisville.
Three freshman make first-team All-America
• Oklahoma's Trae Young, Arizona's Deandre Ayton and Duke's Marvin Bagley III made history, becoming the first group of three freshmen to make the Associated Press All-America first team. Villanova's Jalen Brunson and Kansas' Devonte' Graham were the other first-teamers selected by a 65-member media panel. The Big Ten had three players honored: Keita Bates-Diop of Ohio State and Miles Bridges of Michigan State made the second team, and Carsen Edwards of Purdue made the third team.
• Pittsburgh hired former Virginia Commonwealth and Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel to rebuild its program. Capel spent the past seven seasons as a Duke assistant coach.
• Former Toronto Raptors coach Darrell Walker will take over as coach at Arkansas-Little Rock.
• Tony Carr scored 21 points, lifting Penn State to a 75-60 victory over Mississippi State in the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament at Madison Square Garden. The Nittany Lions will play Utah, a 69-64 winner over Western Kentucky, in the final Thursday.
