Lake Conference back on top

After a Lake Conference school did not win the Class 2A championship in 2015 for the first time in seven years, Eden Prairie restored the conference's dominance by winning last season. The Eagles return senior captain Jordan Greenberg and junior Joshua Withers, along with captains Tommy Heil, Peter Hegland and Austin Pham. Eden Prairie's returning depth and experience puts it in position to fend off Lake Conference rival Minnetonka.

Eye on the Eagles

Minnetonka returns Sam Schilling and Corey Lau, who coach Dan Berve calls "the most talented duo to come from the same school, in the same year" in recent history. They headline a Skippers team that returns the bulk of its state runner-up squad. Expect Minnetonka to contend for the 2A championship again.

Cadets chasing history

St. Thomas Academy, seeking its sixth consecutive Class 1A championship, is currently tied for the longest streak in school history when it won titles from 1999-2003. Rochester has the record of seven consecutive championships from 1953-1959. A state title also would be St. Thomas Academy's 14th. Hibbing won 14 state championships from 1927-1952.
