A 6-year-old boy was quickly reunited with his mother Thursday after a thief stole the woman’s car as the youngster sat in the back seat.

The incident began around 4 p.m. when the mother parked outside Earth’s Beauty Supply at 608 University Av. near Dale Street. The woman left the car running and her son in the back seat as she went into the store.

After what she said was only a few minutes, the woman came out to discover the car was gone, said police spokesman Sgt. Paul Paulos.

A few minutes later, she spotted the car on Dale at University. She then saw the car stop and her son get out. The car, a 2000 white Mercury Sable, then sped away north on Dale.

The boy was safe and unharmed, Paulos said. As of Friday afternoon, the car had yet to be found, police said.
