We may be first in the nation in bike trails, but are we last in biker courtesy? The city bike trails have become crowded, especially on weekends. The trails are used by recreational bikers, families with children and serious bikers (many of whom seem to think they are doing a Grand Prix race around the lakes). Mutual-biker courtesy is almost nonexistent, especially when a biker is passing a slower biker. A ring of a bike bell or an "on your left'' could avoid accidents, near misses and anger.
