In our Big Ten Power Poll No. 12, the Gophers are still fifth, despite Wednesday's loss to Indiana. Michigan State has dropped to seventh. The poll will be published on its usual day next Wednesday. Voter bios and links are listed here. You can see each individual ballot here. 1. Ohio State: My 2 Cents – The Gophers will have their hands full Sunday. But the Buckeyes have come so close to defeat in recent weeks, it seems like it's just a matter of time before they fall. Christopher Cramer says, "Let's put to motion the idea that a veteran team is due for a loss. They will lose if another team plays better than they do, not because they're "due to lose" or because "everyone else loses." 2. Wisconsin: My 2 Cents – With two matchups against the Buckeyes remaining on their schedule, the Badgers might be the only team with the talent, momentum and opportunity to catch the Buckeyes. Christopher Cramer says, "Badgers are in good position to keep Bo Ryan's streak of finishing in the top-4 of the conference every year alive." 3. Purdue: My 2 Cents: Just imagine where this program would be with Robbie Hummel in the lineup. JaJuan Johnson, however, is quietly making a case for national player of the year, while he carries a Boilermakers squad that has a chance to redeem its lopsided loss to the Buckeyes in a re-match in West Lafayette, Ind., Feb. 20. Christopher Cramer says, "JaJuan Johnson is the most unguardable player in the Big Ten." 4. Illinois: My 2 Cents: Same issue every week. Can Demetri McCamey consistently play up to his potential? So far, the answer has been "no." Nathan Wickman says, "McCamey struggling which no shock since he's not a real point guard. They were even desperate enough to use Brandon Paul to run the offense in the game against Indiana." 5. Minnesota: My 2 Cents: Upsets happen in college basketball. But the Gophers took a night off against the Hoosiers Wednesday. They know it. And everyone else who saw that game knows it, too. Mike Milinovich says, "You have to give them credit for battling back to at IU, but how did they get outrebounded for so much of that game? Also, 50% from the line won't get it done." 6. Penn State: My 2 Cents: From nonconference loss to Maine to NCAA tourney bubble team. Wow. Mike Milinovich says, "I've dropped MSU out of the top-6 for the first time this year, but Penn State deserves it. They've knocked off Illinois, MSU and UW at home and have been decent on the road for the most part." 7. Michigan State: My 2 Cents: I think Tom Izzo has lost his team. Not sure what's changed since last year, but they're not responding. Nathan Wickman says, "They are still in the mix because on paper they have the talent to go on an eight-game winning streak, but there are serious problems in East Lansing." 8. Michigan: My 2 Cents: Good young team. Joshua Powers says, "They showed how dangerous of a team they are when hitting three-pointers against Michigan State. And Darius Morris is showing the Big Ten that he is legit, going for a triple-double against Iowa." 9. Northwestern: My 2 Cents: The Wildcats have come close in big games. But they haven't finished. Eric Johnston says, "Wanted to get on board with this team but they're not showing me much." 10. Indiana: My 2 Cents: The Hoosiers are playing with more heart than any team in the Big Ten. Joshua Powers says, "Jordan Hulls really stepped up in the absence of Verdell Jones III." 11. Iowa: My 2 Cents: Another roster full of young talent. Fran McCaffery is already one of the best coaches in this conference. He's just waiting on the right pieces. Joshua Powers says, "What is happening in the Big Ten? Indiana, Michigan and Iowa have all pulled big upsets in the last week. But Iowa's blowout of Michigan State was certainly the most shocking on the three.
