Three and out

Rutgers' Grant knocked out

Not only could Rutgers not score against Iowa on first-and-goal from the 3-yard line on a 76-yard reception by Janarion Grant, but Grant had to leave the game when cornerback Desmond King stepped on his left leg. He could not put any weight on his leg and had to be carted off. Rutgers coach Chris Ash had no comment on the injury, but if he misses any time it clearly won't help the Scarlet Knights offense.

Hoosiers can't get going

Indiana had scored 11 touchdowns and averaged 46.0 points per game over its first two games, but the Hoosiers offense was slowed just enough in its 33-28 home loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. Devine Redding's streak of five consecutive 100-yard games ended with a thud as he ran 16 times for 68 yards. And after throwing no interceptions in his first two FBS starts, Indiana quarterback Richard Lagow was picked off five times. It didn't help the Hoosiers that they played without their starting right tackle and starting right guard.

Anthem protests

Most college conferences play the national anthem before teams take the field, but the Big Ten is among the exceptions. Three Michigan State players — Delton Williams, Kenney Lyke and Gabe Sherrod — held their right fists in the air while standing on the sideline during the anthem before the No. 8 Spartans' 30-6 home loss to No. 11 Wisconsin. Later, several players for No. 4 Michigan also had their fists up before their home game against Penn State, among them Khalid Hill, Mike McCray, Devin Bush, Elysee Mbem-Bosse and Jourdan Lewis.
