In a music scene whose most famous son, Prince, can sing, dance, write, produce and play a mean guitar, there's always excitement when a versatile talent like Allan Kingdom comes along. The Woodbury-reared son of a Tanzanian immigrant has one of the most distinctive rapper/singer voices in town, part Frank Ocean and part Kid Cudi. He also produces many of his own beats (with traces of his mom's East African influences), performs breaker-inspired dance moves and helms his own music videos. His pending album with producer Ryan Olson (Poliça, Marijuana Deathsquads) could be his big break. allankingdomforever.com
