Lake Elmo Park Preserve swimming beach (The Minnesota Star Tribune)

This is 3 ½ square miles of woods, prairie and water near one of the fastest-growing areas in the Twin Cities. Eighty percent is being preserved to resemble the land as it looked in pre-settlement times. There are miles of trails, a fishing pier, picnic areas, boat launch, campgrounds and a swimming pond. 651-430-8370.
