It's not just one race but a series of four or five, depending on how many Wednesdays fall in August. The Como Park Relays are a 40-year tradition that draws tots, duffers, cross-country teams and sometimes even an Olympian like Carrie Tollefson. Show up after work with a partner or be matched with one. When the gun sounds, off you go across the rolling grass of Como Park, past softball games and through pines. You tag off with a partner, each doing four one-kilometer legs the first week, and building up to four one-mile stints by the last. The best part? Just $3 per race. The next best part? Watermelon and cookies for everyone afterward. strib.mn/comorelays
