One of the Twin Cities' most popular singers will get a little help (or a lot, actually) from his friends at Bunkers in Minneapolis.

Well known to be one of the hardest-working musicians in town, Twin Cities rocker Brian (G.B.) Leighton will have other performers working on his behalf tonight at Bunkers Bar & Grill in Minneapolis while he recovers from surgery to remove a tumor.

Leighton, whose real name is Brian Leighton Glodek, 38, only found out about the tumor last week and had it removed Tuesday. The exact type of cancer was kept private. His management company said he is recovering well and -- true to form -- he's even confident he could return to the stage as early as this weekend.

"That's Brian for you. He doesn't let much faze him," said co-manager Amanda Fletcher.

In the meantime, Leighton's eponymous band has turned its weekly gig at Bunkers, 761 Washington Av. N., into a benefit and rally for the singer. Some of Brian's many musical friends are expected to join in. Auction items, including a signed guitar and a private acoustic performance, will go toward covering his bills.
