Bemidji State made up for lost time with a first-round upset of No. 7 Minnesota Duluth on Friday evening in the North Star College Cup at Xcel Energy Center.

The Beavers were left out of the inaugural tournament a year ago but debuted with a 4-0 shutout against the favored Bulldogs and will play for the championship on Saturday night against No. 1 Minnesota State Mankato.
Matt Prapavessis jump-started Bemidji State with a first-period power-play goal and assisted Leo Fitzgerald's second-period goal. Sam Windle and Kyle Bauman each scored goals in the opening 10 minutes of the third period to widen the gap.
Michael Bitzer picked up his third shutout of the season with 28 saves.
Minnesota Duluth has lost three straight since briefly climbing to No. 2 in the PairWise rankings behind No. 1 Minnesota State.
