The Chicago Bears acquired quarterback Nick Foles in a trade with Jacksonville to provide competition for starter Mitch Trubisky on Wednesday.
The Jaguars gave up on Foles less than a year after signing him to a four-year, $88 million contract in free agency last March after he helped guide the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII championship. The Bears are trading their compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round (No. 140 overall) to the Jaguars.
Packers lose two
Longtime Green Bay right tackle Bryan Bulaga agreed to terms with the Chargers and linebacker Blake Martinez announced he was joining the Giants. The 2010 first-round draft pick from Iowa had been a fixture at right tackle for the last decade. Bulaga made 111 regular-season starts, including all 16 games in 2019.
Martinez made 155 tackles last year to rank second in the NFL. That marked the third straight season in which Martinez had over 140 tackles and led the team in that category.
Lions make moves
Detroit signed former Patriots defensive tackle Danny Shelton to a two-year, $8 million deal and added safety Duron Harmon in a trade with the Patriots.
The Lions lost offensive lineman Ted Karras, who agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with the Dolphins, and linebacker Elandon Roberts, who was also expected to sign with the Dolphins.
Etc.
• The Falcons addressed their need for pass-rushing help by agreeing to a three-year, $48 million deal with former Ram Dante Fowler.
• The Raiders agreed to terms with former Giants and Saints cornerback Eli Apple.
