✔  After starting the season with five games on the road, United comes home to open impressive $250 million Allianz Field that has been two years in construction. Itll do so before a national-television audience against an NYCFC team committed to a youth movement now that star David Villa is gone. Why the five-week wait? Not the weather so much as NCAA March Madness and the Minneapolis-hosted Final Four, which plays its title game five days earlier.

✔  You pick 'em for the star power: Galaxys Zlatan Ibrahimovic or D.C. Uniteds Wayne Rooney? The former Manchester United teammates are coming here for quite a consecutive 1-2 punch in late April. Itll be Rooneys first Minnesota appearance since he joined D.C. United last July. The Loons lost a 2-1 decision there against it and Rooney, a three-time World Cup player, at new Audi Field last September.

✔  You think five road games to start a season is a long time away from home? The Timbers play their first 12 on the road before they re-open renovated Providence Park June 1 against LAFC. A team that has reached the MLS Cup game twice in the last four years, the Timbers visit Allianz Field for the first time for a 3 p.m. Sunday marquee game. They defeated Columbus 2-1 to win it all in 2015 and lost 2-0 to Atlanta last December.

✔  As did new teammates Ozzie Alonso in Seattle and Vito Mannone in England, Ike Opara said goodbye to Kansas City after six successful seasons there partly over a matter of money. He left with an emotional farewell on social media he entitled Now That My Face Full of Tears Have Dried, in which he thanked the city, the franchise and the fans. Maybe you cant go home again, but a player who has Minnesota connections returns to Childrens Mercy Park for the first time for this one.

✔  This time, its Alonsos time to go back home to Seattle, where he played 10 seasons and led the Sounders to MLS and U.S. Open Cups and a Supporters Shield. As did Opara in Kansas City, Alonso said farewell on Twitter by thanking everyone for welcoming him in 2009 to place he didnt know the language or the city. This one will not only be heartfelt, but playoff implications on the regular seasons final day might be on the line.
