A woman's suspicious death in a small northern Minnesota community has drawn the attention of state investigators, and authorities say that someone who lived with the victim is being detained in connection with the case.

A caller to 911 in Itasca County shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday alerted authorities to the body of the woman in her home in the 500 block of 5th Street SE. in Deer River, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The woman's identity and the circumstances of her death have yet to be revealed by authorities, and no arrests have been announced.

However, the Sheriff's Office said, a "person of interest" is being held on a probation violation. That person also lived at the home, the Sheriff's Office added.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension sent crime scene personnel to the scene and joined local law enforcement on the case in the community of roughly 930 people, located about 15 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, the Sheriff's Office said.

An autopsy was being scheduled with the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.
