"Backyard Baseball '10" uses kiddie version of MLB stars

Young Twins fans can see a new side of Joe Mauer -- even though he won't be taking the field for Monday's season opener due to a back injury.

The catcher is one of several Major League Baseball stars featured in the new video game "Backyard Baseball '10." The catch? They are depicted as kids.

The new Atari release ($30 for the Wii, Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2) is aimed at young gamers.

"I think it's something different," Mauer said. "Video games nowadays, they get too difficult and you have to know too many different things -- that's my opinion. It is nice to switch it up."

Mauer said he's not much of a video-gamer, but he's intrigued: "I hope they made me pretty good! I might have to check it out."
