The Avalanche will go with backup goalie Andrew Hammond, 30, for Game 5 in Nashville on Friday after starter Jonathan Bernier suffered a lower-body injury.

Colorado trails the Predators 3-1 in the first-round Western Conference series.

Hammond stepped in Wednesday to begin the third period for Bernier and stopped all eight shots he faced in Colorado's 3-2 loss to Nashville. The game was his first playoff appearance since April 17, 2015, while with Ottawa.

• The Hurricanes have hired former sports agent Paul Krepelka as a vice president of hockey operations. His responsibilities will include negotiating player contracts. Krepelka, a former minor league player and lawyer, spent 20 years as an agent.
