Rep. Joe Atkins, DFL-Inver Grove Heights, will debate the legalization of fantasy sports betting at the meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures in Washington, he said in a news release.
Atkins will debate Maggie Carlton, assemblywoman of Nevada, where major fantasy sites FanDuel and DraftKings have been shut down, requiring them to be licensed as sports betting operations there.
Atkins will argue for his own proposal to legalize, regulate and tax the major fantasy sports companies. DraftKings and FanDuel also will have representatives on the panel.
Big fantasy sites are safe in Minnesota for now, though gambling expansion opponents want them banned, calling daily fantasy play a violation of current state gambling law.
