OAKLAND, Calif. - Mike Fiers of the Oakland Athletics pitched his second career no-hitter Tuesday night, beating the Cincinnati Reds 2-0.

Fiers, whose first gem was in 2015 for Houston against the Dodgers, threw 131 pitches in becoming the 35th pitcher with multiple no-hitters in his career.

"I had to tell Bob [manager Bob Melvin] I'm good. He was talking to me, looking out for my health," said Fiers, who struck out six and walked two.

Only a few thousand fans remained to the end — the game started 98 minutes late because of a light malfunction at the Coliseum.

"I'm glad they got the lights working," said Fiers, 33, a career journeyman who is 3-3 this season, 57-58 for his career.

The A's made back-to-back great defensive plays in the sixth inning in the first no-hitter of 2019. Second baseman Jurickson Profar made a diving catch on a pop-up in short right field. Joey Votto followed with a drive to center field, but Ramon Laureano leapt at the fence to pull the ball back and rob Votto of a home run.
