HOUSTON – Astros All-Star reliever Ryan Pressly said he expects to be able to pitch in the World Series against the Nationals.

The former Twins righthander threw only one pitch in the clinching Game 6 of the ALCS on Saturday, retiring Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius on a soft grounder with the bases loaded to end the third inning. But the reliever had to leave after aggravating his surgically repaired right knee — he had the procedure in August and missed time.

"Not going into too much detail about my knee," Pressly said before a workout Monday. "I think we'll be fine."

Manager AJ Hinch said the Astros would announce their World Series roster Tuesday.

"Quite honestly, the health of Ryan Pressly is going to be key in those decisions. He's going to do some things on the field today. Hopefully get off the mound. He's feeling better. We anticipate him being available and ready to go," Hinch said.

"But until we clear him as active we're going to have to hold off on our roster. There could be a change or two either based on health or based on matchup."

Pressly, traded from the Twins in July 2018, was 2-3 with a 2.32 ERA in 55 games this season. He struggled in the playoffs against Tampa Bay and New York, giving up four runs and six hits in 2⅔ innings over six games.

Homecoming

Washington star Anthony Rendon is back in his hometown, and it's not as a fan. Instead, the third baseman is leading the Nationals to their first World Series against the team he rooted for as a child.

Rendon vividly remembers his one visit to the Astrodome as a child to see the Astros of Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.

"It was a very smelly place," Rendon said. "We got a tour, a behind the scenes kind of deal, and that place was really dirty and really stinky."

Rendon is notoriously low-key and rarely shows much emotion on the field. He admitted this week will be a bit different after spending his entire life in Houston before the Nationals drafted him out of Rice with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 draft.

"As a kid growing up, obviously you want to play for the hometown team," he said. "But I think this will do."

Etc.

• Alan Porter will work home plate for Game 1 of the World Series as part of an umpiring crew headed by Gary Cederstrom. The other umpires will be Doug Eddings, James Hoye, Lance Barksdale and Sam Holbrook, and Jim Wolf will replace Porter on the field for Game 3 in Washington. Umpires will wear a patch in memory of Eric Cooper, an umpire who worked the Twins-Yankees ALDS who died from a blood clot over the weekend at age 52.

• Outfielder Michael Brantley will get to play in a World Series at age 32. He joined the Astros this year after 10 seasons with Cleveland, and when the Indians went to the World Series in 2016, he was limited to only 11 games that season because of a shoulder injury. "This is not guaranteed to anybody," he said. "… I'm just going to enjoy the experience."

• Washington is the fourth team to enter the World Series with a winning streak of at least six games in that postseason. None of the previous three won the championship.
