Dancers and drummers from across the nation will converge on Red Wing July 9-11 for the Prairie Island Indian Community's annual powwow, or wacipi. The traditional Dakota dance competition will be held outside, and the public is invited.
Arts briefs: Powwow planned at Prairie Island
Participants will wear full regalia and compete in different dances. All the dancers will enter the arena together during the "grand entries," which will be held at 7 p.m. July 9, 1 and 7 p.m. July 10, and 1 p.m. July 11.
Traditional Indian food will be sold, and the festival will feature booths selling arts and crafts.

WHITE BEAR LAKE
Teen theater workshops offered Auditioning and costuming will take center stage for teens July 26-30 at the Lakeshore Players Theatre in White Bear Lake.
In an "Audition Skills Workshop," an acting instructor will give advice on everything from choosing the right monologue for an audition to selecting the right clothes to wear. The seminar will close with a practice audition in front of friends and family.
If performing in front of a panel sounds too intimidating, another workshop at the same time will give teens hands-on experience with costume-making.
Both workshops are open to grades six through 12, and registration will close July 19. Both seminars cost $149, and the costuming class will cost an additional $50 for materials. According to the Lakeshore Players website, some partial or full scholarships are available. For more information, see www.lakeshoreplayers.com or call 651-429-5674.
