Cassius Winston shook off a slow start and finished with 23 points to help No. 6 Michigan State beat Purdue 77-59 Tuesday night in East Lansing, Mich.

The Spartans (14-2, 5-0 Big Ten) have won nine in a row; the Boilermakers (9-6, 2-2) won their previous three games by a combined total of 55 points.

Purdue's Carsen Edwards had a season-low 11 points on 3-of-16 shooting. He entered the game averaging 25.5 points.

No. 12 North Carolina 90, No. 15 North Carolina State 82: Luke Maye scored 21 points to help the Tar Heels (12-3, 2-0 ACC) hold off the Wolfpack (13-2, 1-1) in Raleigh in the longtime rivals' latest meeting.

South Carolina 87, No. 14 Mississippi State 82 (OT): A.J. Lawson stole the ball and finished with an emphatic dunk with 13 seconds left in overtime to seal the upset by the Gamecocks (7-7, 2-0 SEC) over the Bulldogs (12-2, 0-1) in Columbia, S.C. Maik Kotsar scored 25 points and had nine rebounds for South Carolina.

Big Ten women

No. 9 Maryland 81, Nebraska 63: Kaila Charles scored 19 points, eight of them coming when the Terrapins (14-1, 3-1) broke open the game in the third quarter, to help beat the Cornhuskers (7-8, 2-2) for former Gophers coach Brenda Frese's 500th career victory.

Michigan 79, Northwestern 78 (OT): Two free throws by Nicole Munger with 51 seconds left lifted the Wolverines (11-5, 2-2) over the Wildcats (9-6, 2-2) in Ann Arbor, Mich.
