Dwight Clark says he has Lou Gehrig's disease and suspects playing football caused the illness.

Clark, 60, who played on two Super Bowl winners in nine seasons with San Francisco, announced Sunday on Twitter that he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that attacks cells that control muscles. He linked to a post on his personal blog detailing his diagnosis, but the site crashed Sunday night, apparently from an overflow of traffic.

Clark said he's been asked if his football career caused his ALS. "I don't know for sure. But I certainly suspect it did," he said.

The meeting will happen in Philadelphia, two days before the scheduled start of training camp. Players announced Wednesday they'd boycott camp and the tournament unless significant progress is made in negotiations on what they hope is a four-year contract.
