Lakeview Christian's Broman certified as scoring leader

Anders Broman was certified Monday as the state's all-time leading basketball scorer, after a Minnesota State High School League review of documentation provided by Broman's former coach at Lakeview Christian Academy in Duluth, in consultation with Minnesota boys' basketball historian Matt Pederson.

Broman finished with 5,119 points in a six-year varsity career. His per-game averages of 43.7 points as a junior and 41.5 as a senior are also the top two marks in state history.

Broman's high school career ended in 2013. He started at South Dakota State but has transferred to Winthrop University in South Carolina.

The all-time leading girls' basketball scorer in the state is Rebekah Dahlman, who had 5,060 points for Braham.

Attendance record

The Saints completed a home sweep of Winnipeg and lowered their magic number to two for clinching the North Division title with a 7-1 victory. The announced crowd of 8,419 set a single-season home attendance record of 299,093, surpassing their franchise record, and American Association record, of 297,834 in 2007.

Ryan Lashley led the Saints with four RBI, including a three-run double. Alonzo Harris had a two-run double in the seventh.

Winona St. selects coach for men's basketball

Todd Eisner was chosen as the new men's basketball coach at Winona State, the school announced.Eisner, a Chilton, Wis., native with 17 years of college head coaching experience, will be formally introduced at an Aug. 17 news conference.

Waterfowl opener

Minnesota's fall duck and goose seasons will open Sept. 26 with bag limits and season dates similar to last year's. The only bag limit change is for canvasback ducks, which increases from one to two per day.

Steve Cordts, waterfowl specialist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, said the DNR adjusted the season dates in the south duck zone based on hunter preferences.
