Colorado Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez acknowledges he was "scared" when he felt pain again in his surgically repaired left knee.

Gonzalez declared himself healthy on Sunday and was a little disappointed he wasn't in the starting lineup against Arizona. The Rockies decided to give him a second day off as a precaution; Gonzalez expects to play Monday.

The two-time All-Star left Friday's game against San Diego becauuse of what he called "fatigue" in the knee. He had season-ending surgery last August to repair the patella tendon.

Gonzalez says a doctor told him there would be occasional pain during his recovery.

Marlins tab Alvarez

Henderson Alvarez was picked to start the Miami Marlins' opener against the Atlanta Braves on April 6.

Alvarez, 24, went 12-7 with a 2.65 ERA for Miami last season.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond called the decision a "no-brainer."

Garcia scratched from start

Jaime Garcia was scratched from Sunday's start by the St. Louis Cardinals because his surgically repaired shoulder doesn't feel right, making it unlikely he will start the season on the active roster.
