Allegiant Airlines announced this week that it is pulling out of Duluth. A statement from the carrier said the last day of service will be May 18.
The carrier offering low-cost flights to popular tourist destinations had served Duluth since 2006. It began a retreat last year when it cut service from the Twin Ports to Orlando and Phoenix, but continued with twice-weekly service to Las Vegas.
The airline said it did not see continued demand for the Duluth-Las Vegas route.
"We're certainly saddened to end service in a market we've served for so long," Eric Fletcher, Allegiant's manager of airports, said in a statement. "We thank the Duluth International Airport for their partnership and the Duluth community for their loyalty over the years."
Customers with tickets for flights after May 18 will be eligible for a refund, the airline said.
The airline's departure will result in the loss of one full-time and 11 part-time or seasonal jobs in Duluth, the airport's communications and marketing director told the Duluth News Tribune.
Both United and Delta airlines continue to offer daily service between Duluth and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago and Detroit.
